Several Eagles past and present have been invited to the 2019 USA Hockey Women’s Winter Training Camp
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three current Boston College women's hockey players along with five recent graduates have been invited to the 2019 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp, which will take place Dec. 9-13 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The 46-player roster was announced Thursday by USA Hockey.
Â
Current Eagles Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka and Hadley Hartmetz will join Katie Burt '18, Alex Carpenter '16, Kali Flanagan '19, Megan Keller '19, and Emily Matheson '15 at the camp. Of the 46 athletes invited to the training camp, 21 are active NCAA players, while 25 are postgraduates. Hartmetz and Bilka join Minnesota's Madeline Wethington as the only first-year collegiate players on the camp roster.
Â
From the pool of players, 23 will be selected to the U.S. Women's National Team that will face Canada in the first two games of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series, including games on Dec. 14 at the XL Center and Dec. 17 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Â
Barnes, Keller, Flanagan, Matheson, Carpenter and Burt all attended the November Training Camp earlier this month while all eight participated in the 2019 USA Hockey Women's National Festival this past August. Additionally, Barnes, Bilka and Hartmetz were named to the U.S. Under-22 Team following that camp.
Â
The annual winter training camp serves as an opportunity to help the top players prepare for upcoming international events, including the 2019-20 Rivalry Series and the 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship. The Rivalry Series includes five games. In addition to the opening two games in December, the U.S. and Canada will also meet on Feb. 3 in Victoria, British Columbia, Feb. 5 in Vancouver, British Columbia and Feb. 8 in Anaheim, Calif.
