Eagles Host Yale in NCAA First Round

BC earns postseason bid for first time since 2016
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College will host Yale on Thursday, Nov. 21 (7 p.m.) in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The entire bracket was revealed Monday afternoon during the NCAA.com selection show. This marks the 15th time in program history that the Eagles will participate in the NCAA Tournament.
Boston College finished the regular season with an 8-5-3 mark and ranked 27th in last week's NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) rankings.
The Eagles last appearance in the NCAA was in 2016. BC defeated Fairfield but eventually lost to Albany in the second round. In 2015 the team advanced to the Elite Eight, defeating Vermont, South Florida, and Georgetown before a tough 1-0 loss at Syracuse in the Elite Eight.
BC began the 2019 with a 4-0 record and posted a six-game unbeaten streak midway through the season, which began with a 2-2 OT draw at No. 19 Virginia Tech. During the six-game stretch, the Eagles defeated No. 7 Wake Forest, 2-1, at home and tied No. 1 Virginia, 1-1.
Boston College is led by freshman Stefan Sigurdarson who was named to the All-ACC Third Team as well as the All-ACC Freshman Team. A native of Iceland, Sigurdarson led BC in scoring with seven goals and four assists for 18 points, while fellow newcomers Amos Shapiro-Thompson (4 goals, 1 assist) and Michael Suski (3 goals, 3 assists) finished second on the team with nine points apiece.
A trio of Eagles were named to the All-ACC Freshman team: Sigurdarson, Shapiro-Thompson, and defender Victor Souza also earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors.
Yale (13-2-2, 6-1-0 Ivy League) won the Ivy League title this past season. The Bulldogs last played on Nov. 16 and earned a 2-1 win on the road at Princeton. They finished the season on a four-game win streak.
Junior Mark Winhoffer lead Yale offensively with six goals, 11 assists for 23 points. Senior Yuste Miguel has started all 17 games and has a team-high eight goals with four assists for 20 points.
The winner of the BC-Yale match will travel to play at No. 6 Washington (15-3) on Sunday, Nov. 24 in the second round of the tournament.
