Eagles Defensive Pressure Key to 59-33 Win over High Point

BC uses a 21-0 run to pull away in opening game of Gotham Classic
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College used a 21-0 run to break the game open against High Point, as the Eagles (3-0) cruised to a 59-33 victory on Wednesday night in the opening game of the Gotham Classic.
Jay Heath led three BC players in double figures with 14 points. Jared Hamilton had 12 points, while Steffon Mitchell logged his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
BC led 31-18 after a Hamilton dunk with 44 seconds remaining in the first half, and kept the Panthers off the scoreboard for the next 10:26. A Luka Kraljevic layup gave BC its largest lead of the night - 34 points - holding a 52-18 lead with 9:39 to play in the game.
The Eagles scored the first 10 points of the game, capped by a Mitchell layup with 16:48 to go in the first half. High Point responded with a 14-6 run, making it a two-point ball game - 16-14 - with 6:27 left in the period. The Eagles dialed up its defensive pressure to close the half on a 17-4 run and took a 33-18 lead into intermission.
That defensive pressure continued through the opening 10-plus minutes of the second half, as the Eagles forced High Point into eight turnovers to go along with 0-for-11 shooting.

- The 33 points allowed were:Â the fewest points allowed by a Jim Christian team at BC; the second-lowest points scored by a BC opponent since 1996 (NJIT - 32 - Jan. 5, 2010); and the fewest allowed by an ACC team so far in 2019-20.
- Jay Heath scored 11 of his game-high 14 in the second half. The freshman guard added four rebounds - all on the offensive glass - to go along with two steals.
- Jared Hamilton posted a highly efficient stat line in the box score: 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, making both of his 3-point attempts. He also had three rebounds and a blocked shot in 20 minutes of play.
- For the third time in as many games, Steffon Mitchell led BC in rebounding (10) and steals (4). He also added two assists and a steal in 19 minutes of action.
- Derryck Thornton saw 20 minutes of playing time, finishing with seven points, five assists, three steals, two rebounds, and a blocked shot.
- CJ Felder pulled down a season-best seven rebounds to go along with four points.
- Luka Kraljevic saw his first action of the season, tallying four points and logging an assists in 11 minutes.
- Julian Rishwain chipped in with a season-high three assists to go with three boards, two steals.
- In his first extended minutes of the season, Kamari Williams scored a basket and notched three steals. Â
- All 15 Eagles saw action tonight.
- 24 - Boston College scored 24 of its 59 points off 29 High Point turnovers.
- Three Eagles posted double-digit efficiency ratings, led by Steffon Mitchell's 18. Jared Hamilton (14) and Jay Heath (11) were the others.Â

- Boston College plays the second of five straight at the friendly confines of Conte Forum on Saturday, Nov. 16 vs. Belmont. The game is the second of four games as part of the Gotham Classic MTE.
