Stefan Sigurdarson & Joe Kellett honored by the ACC
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Monday that Boston College's Stefan Sigurdarson has been named ACC Offensive Player of the Week. Senior Joe Kellett earned Co-ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors as well.
Sigurdarson scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the 84th minute to lead Boston College past No. 3 Wake Forest on Friday. The freshman forward gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season in the 16th minute of play.
A native of Iceland, Sigurdarson scored the game-winner off a pass from fellow freshman Mike Suski to give the Eagles the lead. It was Sigurdarson's third goal of the season. He now leads BC with three goals, two assists for eight points.
Kellett, a native of Norfolk, Mass., has been a mainstay in the Eagles defense all season. Kellett has stepped up to help the injury riddled Eagles. In the last two weeks, Kellett scored a game-winner vs. UMass on Sept. 24, and followed that up with a game-tying goal in the 90th minute at No. 18 Virginia Tech on Sept. 27.
This week, Kellett was part of a defensive corps that gave up just one goal in two games as the Eagles are 2-0-2 in the last four games. The more impressive statistic about Kellett is that he is one of four players, which have played every minute of every game for the Eagles.
Boston College will host inner-city rival Northeastern on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. Fans can view the game on the ACC Network.
