No. 19 UMass Lowell Fights Back for 4-4 Tie Against BC
January 26, 2019 | Men's Hockey
LOWELL, Mass. – Boston College never trailed on Saturday night at Tsongas Center, but 19th-ranked UMass Lowell came back from numerous deficits to earn a point in a 4-4 tie to close a home-and-home series.
Â
David Cotton had a goal and an assist playing in his 100th career game, while JD Dudek, Logan Hutsko, and Oliver Wahlstrom also posted multi-point performances. Joseph Woll made 33 saves, including a sprawling effort in the final seconds of overtime to preserve a point.
Â
The Eagles (8-12-3) pulled even with Northeastern in a tie for second place in Hockey East at 8-4-3, while UMass Lowell (14-8-2, 8-4-2 HEA) remained a point back in fourth with a game in hand.
Â
Wahlstrom and Cotton gave BC a 2-0 lead after one period, but Lowell responded in the second with a heavy shot advantage. Kenny Hausinger cut the lead to one on a breakaway early in the frame, but Christopher Brown netted his fifth goal in the last six games to restore the two-goal cushion heading into the third.
Â
The River Hawks quickly turned the momentum and tied the game in the first 2:26 of the third period on goals from Ryan Dmowski and Chase Blackmun.
Â
Dudek's one-timer into the upper right corner put BC ahead once again with five minutes left, but UMass Lowell quickly capitalized on a power play with 2:01 remaining as Dmowski's second of the night sent the game to overtime.
Â
In the dying seconds of the extra session, Woll made a pad save in the crease and fell back to knock the puck away from the left post. BC out-shot UML 4-2 in overtime, including two attempts from Hutsko in the opening minute.Â
