Strong First Period Lifts No. 3 Northeastern Past No. 10 BC

The Huskies scored three goals in the first period and then held off a late BC rally.
BOSTON – Third-ranked Northeastern scored three goals in the first period and then held off a rally by the No. 10 Boston College women's hockey team for a 4-1 win at Matthews Arena on Friday night. Daryl Watts scored in her second consecutive game for the Eagles.
The Huskies opened the scoring at 3:21 for the early edge. With under five minutes to play in the first frame, NU scored two goals in 52 seconds for a 3-0 lead at the break.
Watts put the Eagles on the board four minutes into the second. Northeastern kept a flurry of BC opportunities at bay late in the frame for the two-goal lead after two. The Eagles kept pushing to cut the deficit, putting on a surge over the final few minutes. With Maddy McArthur on the bench for an extra-attacker, BC had a puck destined for the back of the net blocked on the goal line by Skylar Fontaine. Kassidy Anderson's empty-net goal with 6.2 seconds left sealed the win.
McArthur was strong over the final two periods, making 15 saves for a game-total of 25 while the defense in front of her finished with 26 blocks. Aerin Frankel finished with 29 saves for Northeastern. BC had the 30-29 edge in shots on goal. Northeastern was 0-for-4 on the power play while BC was 0-for-2.

- 1st, 3:21 | 0-1, NU GOAL: McArthur made the initial save at the left post and slide over the follow-up bid but Tori Sullivan was able to deflect the puck in off a skate at the right post.
- 1st, 14:26 | 0-2, NU GOAL: A turnover in the neutral zone saw Chloe Aurard break in on a 1-on-1 and use a screen to fire a wrist shot low glove side.
- 1st, 15:18 | 0-3, NU GOAL: Andrea Renner and Matti Hartman broke in on a 2-on-1 and Hartman slid the puck to the left side for a Renner one-timer.
- 2nd, 4:22 | 1-3, BC GOAL: From the BC slot, Megan Keller found Lindsay Agnew up the right wing and the junior carried the puck into the Northeastern zone. Agnew then slipped a pass through the defense to Watts at the left circle and she deked Frankel down to finish on her backhand at the right post.
- 3rd, 19:54 | 1-4, NU GOAL: Anderson picked up the puck in the neutral zone and skated in before cutting back and finding a shooting lane to the empty net.
- BC's 26 blocked shots marked a single-game high for the Eagles this season, besting 16 on Nov. 27, 2018 against Northeastern.
- Makenna Newkirk had a game-high 12 face-off wins … Kelly Browne's 11 wins tied for second.
- Daryl Watts scored in her second consecutive game ... the sophomore tied for a game-high in shots on goal with six.
- Megan Keller and Lindsay Agnew both earned points for the second straight game.
- This was the 11th consecutive game in which BC out-shot its opponent.
- Boston College is now 43-38-7 all-time against Northeastern … the Eagles have a mark of 19-19-2 on the road.
- Head coach Katie Crowley now has a career mark of 33-9-4 against the Huskies.
