Eagles Subdue Saints at Dartmouth Invitational

BC earns sixth sweep of the season
HANOVER, N.H. – The Boston College volleyball team continued its roll through non-conference play, sweeping Siena to start the second day of the Dartmouth Invitational. The Eagles improved to 8-0 on the season with the 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 victory on Saturday morning.

Boston College recorded an attack percentage of .242 (41 kills – 17 errors – 99 total attempts) while holding Siena (0-8) to a .120 clip (26 – 15 – 92). BC out blocked the Saints 6-5 and aced Siena seven times.

Junior Cat Balido led BC with 11 kills and a .529 attack percentage with two errors on 17 attempts. Sophomores Amaka Chukwujewu and Clare Naughton followed with seven and six kills, respectively.

Junior Makenzie Morrison recorded a match-high 10 digs while Jane DeJarld led the Eagles with 22 assists. Morrison and sophomore Madison McKnight each recorded three service aces.

-The Eagles' seven service aces ties the most in a match by BC this season.
-Cat Balido's 10 kills mark her fifth double-digit performance this season. Balido leads the Eagles with 71 kills this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 –  The teams stayed close to start the match until, after BC knotted the match 7-7, Siena went 5-2 to take a 12-9 lead. The Eagles rebounded immediately with a 7-2 surge, leading 16-14 after a pair of kills from Cat Balido. The teams traded points, with Siena taking a timeout after BC took a 23-20 lead, but the Eagles finished off the set in straight points, winning 25-20.

Set 2 – Siena began the frame with a 3-1 lead, but BC quickly turned the set around to lead 12-7 at Siena's first timeout. BC led by as many as eight points (20-12) in the set, always keeping the Saints at an arm's length. Siena came within five points, 23-18, and made the Eagles take a timeout, but the Eagles returned from the break with back-to-back kills to win 25-18.

Set 3 – The final set was all Boston College as the Eagles took an 8-4 advantage by the first timeout and never looked back. The teams traded short runs until a 12-8 BC lead where the teams then went point-for-point to split the next seven points (15-12).  The Eagles took five straight points, holding a 20-12 advantage, before going 5-4 to close out the sweep, 25-16.
