HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Lafayette took a quick 2-0 lead to begin the match, but the Eagles finally took the lead with a 7-1 surge to lead, 7-3. Lafayette took four of the next six points, but BC went on another 7-1 tear lead 16-8. The Leopards would score just four more points in the set as the Eagles won convincingly, 25-12.
Â
Set 2 – After a slow start to the frame, the Eagles gained an early 8-4 lead due to a flurry of Lafayette errors. The Leopards cut the BC lead down to one, trailing just 9-8, until Eagles went on a 10-3 run to widen the gap to 19-11. Lafayette's rally attempt came up short as the Eagles finished off the set 25-15 for a 2-0 lead in the game.
Â
Set 3 – The final set proved to be the most difficult for BC, but the Eagles pulled out the victory with a 25-18 performance. The teams went point-for-point, tying five times, until the Eagles took three straight points for an 8-5 lead. The advantage held until Lafayette bounced back to trail by just one, 10-9, before a three point Eagles' run made the score 13-9. Lafayette took a timeout at 17-13 after three consecutive BC points, but the Eagles took eight of next 13 points to win the set and match.
