The sophomore is one of 59 players invited to the camp
CALGARY, Alberta — Boston College women's hockey sophomore Daryl Watts has been invited to the Hockey Canada National Women's Team Fall Festival, which runs Sept. 8-16 at the Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, British Columbia,
Watts was one of 59 players selected for the camp and one of 17 players attending the camp that will skate for an NCAA team during the 2018-19 season. She is one of 12 players going to the festival that competed against the United States in a three-game series in August and she is the lone player from Hockey East taking part, with Vermont's Ève-Audrey Picard invited but unable to attend. The Toronto, Ontario native will be on of two Patty Kazmaier winners at the camp, with 2014 winner Jamie Lee Rattray also attending.
Watts made history during her 2017-18 freshman season, becoming the first-ever freshman to win the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Her 82 points marked the second-highest point total ever posted by a freshman in NCAA play, while her 42 goals tied for the most by a freshman in NCAA history, behind Harvard forward Julie Chu's 42 in 2002-03. Watts' 82 points are also the second-highest single-season point total in Boston College history.
While at the camp, the players will be split into two teams that will practice and play games against each other and local teams - with an eye towards identifying the players that will represent Canada at the senior level on the international stage throughout the 2018-19 season. Following the camp, players will continue to be monitored at the Women's National Team events, Canada's National Women's Under-18 Team and Development Team events, international events and with their respective club teams.
