September 30, 2018 | Women's Soccer
Eagles improve to 11-1-0 and 3-1-0 in the ACC with a key road win.
CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Olivia Vaughn scored two second half goals to lead Boston College past ACC foe, Clemson, 2-1, at Historic Riggs Field on Sunday afternoon. Boston College finished a two-game ACC road swing at 1-1, to improve to 11-1-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in the conference, Clemson dropped to 7-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the ACC.
After a scoreless first half, Boston College fell behind on a goal by Clemson in the 69th minute. The Tigers sent a long ball to the far post, and Mackenzie Smith headed it to the near post from three-yards out. After the goal, BC had to push forward and the Eagles did just that.
Three minutes after Clemson scored, Eagles forward Olivia Vaughn picked up the ball about 30 yards out and dribbled by three Clemson players. Vaughn shot from 20-yards out went low to the far post, right under the Clemson goalkeepers outstretched arms to tie the game at 1-1.
Vaughn was not done as she gave BC the lead for good with eight minutes left to play. Sophomore Sam Coffey sent a long ball which the Tigers defense misplayed. Vaughn battled for it, and spun away from the defender and goalkeeper, to place the ball in the empty goal for a 2-1 lead.
Boston College had just eight shots, but six were on goal. The Eagles held Clemson to 13 shots, just six on goal.
