Eagles have won five consecutive regular-season titles
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Hockey East announced Thursday that the fourth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team has been predicted to finish first in the annual preseason coaches' poll for the 2018-19 season. The Eagles are coming off a season in which they went 19-2-3 in league play to capture a fifth consecutive regular-season title.
In the poll, Boston College garnered nine of the 10 first-place votes and 81 voting points. Northeastern was second with 73 points and the other first-place vote. Maine (59), Providence (54) and Boston University (44) rounded out the top five. Connecticut (43), New Hampshire (41), Vermont (25), Merrimack (21) and conference new-comer Holy Cross (9) were tabbed sixth through 10th, respectively.
This marks the seventh straight season in which the coaches selected BC to win the regular season title. In addition to the 19-2-3 Hockey East slate, the Eagles went 30-5-3 overall, the third-best mark in program history, and won a third straight Beanpot trophy before drawing the 10th NCAA Tournament berth in program history.
The 2018-19 season will commence next week when BC travels to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth for a two-game series Sept. 28-29. The team then returns to the Heights for a five game homestand, beginning with Syracuse on Oct. 6.
