Atchison's Tiebreaker Secures Win Over Huskies

The sophomore's second goal of the year lifts Eagles for first of three games in six days
DEDHAM, Mass.:Â The No. 9 Boston College field hockey team topped cross-town opponent Northeastern, 2-1, Tuesday evening in Dedham.
The Eagles opened up the match with a statement, pulling two consecutive corner shots just 30 seconds into the game. Although both corner shots were blocked, sophomore Fusine Govaert found her fourth goal of the season 4:13 into the game to open up the scoring and put the Eagles up 1-0.
The remainder of the first half showed the Eagles holding onto control in their offensive zone. They led in shots 7-2 throughout the half.
The Huskies knotted the score at one when Rachel Campbell capitalized on Northeastern's first corner attempt of the evening at 30:45 in the first. The 1-1 tie remained to end the half.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer opened up the second half with a pair of crucial saves. The Eagles seemed to have capitalized on their first corner chance of the second half, but the ball was called as too high.
The Eagles called a timeout with 13:59 remaining in the second half. Following the break, sophomore Cassidy Atchison broke through the tie and lifted the Eagles up 2-1. The sophomore's second career goal secured the win for the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- GOAL: BC 1, NU 0; 4:13:Â Govaert walked right through the Husky defense and pushed the ball to the back of the net, putting the Eagles on the board first following a corner shot.
- GOAL: BC 1, NU 1; 30:45:Â Rachel Campbell found the back of the net off of a corner shot and marked her first career goal.
- GOAL: BC 2, NU 1; 60:15:Â Atchison grabbed a rebound off of goalkeeper Julia Gluyas' leg pads and tipped the ball in the net, breaking the tie and securing the win for the Eagles.
- With her first period goal, Govaert now leads the Eagles in scoring with four goals on the season.
- Govaert, Jaime Natale, and Brooke Matherson each contributed three shots to the win.Â

- The Eagles return home to Newton for a busy weekend as they match up with Virginia and New Hampshire.
