CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's hockey team will begin the 2018-19 regular season as the No. 4 team in the nation according to the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Preseason Poll, which was released Monday.
The Eagles picked up 113 points, six points back of third-place Minnesota (119), and one first-place vote. Defending national champion Clarkson sits atop the preseason rankings with 147 points and 14-of-15 first-place votes.
Wisconsin (125) in second and Colgate (91) in fifth finish off the top five. Cornell checked in at No. 6 while BC's 2018 NCAA Quarterfinal opponent, Ohio State, was seventh. Northeastern, Minnesota Duluth and Mercyhurst complete the top 10. St. Lawrence, Princeton, Connecticut, Harvard, and Providence received votes in the poll.
Last season, Boston College finished with a 30-5-3 overall record and won the Hockey East regular-season championship with a mark of 19-2-3. The Eagles claimed a third-straight Beanpot title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in program history, drawing a top-four seed.
The Eagles, who are slated to play six teams that were ranked or received votes in the preseason poll, will boast a 24-player roster heading into the 2018-19 season. In all, the team is set to return 18 letterwinners, including 16 from the 2017-18 team and reigning Patty Kazmaier winner Daryl Watts. Three players in Megan Keller, Kali Flanagan, and Cayla Barnes return after helping the U.S. National Team in a gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
