Eagles Falter in Four to Huskies

BC drops final match of New England Challenge, 3-1
BOSTON – The Boston College volleyball team closed out the New England Challenge with its final non-conference match of the season, falling 3-1 to Northeastern on Saturday night at the Cabot Center.
BC (10-2) hit for .114 percent (46 kills – 27 errors – 166 total attempts) but had a hard time controlling the Huskie offense that hit for .224 (63 – 24 – 174). The Eagles bested Northeastern (6-6) in aces, 4-3, but were out dug, (80-70) and out blocked (11-9.5) in the match.
Senior McKenna Goss led the Eagles with 17 kills and a .366 attack percentage with just two errors on 41 attempts. Junior Makenzie Morrison led the defense with 18 digs, adding two service aces, followed by junior Jill Strockis with 16 digs and two blocks.
Sophomore Ally Mullen recorded five total blocks to lead the match while sophomores Clare Naughton, Amaka Chukwujekwu and Alinda Dersjant recorded two blocks apiece.

- BC's 70 digs were the third-most against an opponent this season.

- Jill Strockis had 16 digs, her fourth-straight double-digit dig performance. Strockis has had ten or more digs in nine matches this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – It was a close start to the match, tied 3-3, until NU went on a 9-3 tear to lead 12-6 and force Boston College into a timeout. The teams traded a few points until BC hit a 5-0 scoring run to force a Huskies' timeout after the NU lead dwindled to 16-13. After going an even 6-6 over the next 12 points, BC took a timeout trailing 23-19. The Huskies came out of the break with two-straight to win the game, 25-19.
Set 2 – Northeastern took a 2-0 set lead, besting the Eagles 25-11 in game two. Trading short runs, the teams were tied through 9-9 until BC took four of six points to lead 13-11. NU fought back to force three tie points, up to 17-17. The Huskies used a timeout after taking an 18-17 lead over BC, finishing off the game with a 7-4 run out of the break.
Set 3 – Boston College rebounded from the 2-0 deficit to steal a game from the Huskies, 25-23. Tied 4-4 to start the set, NU went six for eight to lead 9-6. BC closed the gap and took the lead, 12-10, after going on a 6-1 run but NU quickly went 4-2 to tie it at 14 all. BC regained the 18-16 lead after a 4-2 run, but the Huskies tied it back up, 18 all, out of a timeout. The teams went point-for-point, remaining tied at 22-22, until BC finally broke out on a 3-1 run to win the frame, 25-23.
Set 4 – Northeastern led 7-4 at the first Boston College timeout, then went 4-1 to widen the lead, 11-5. BC closed in with three unanswered, 11-8, but NU went right back on offense to take three of their own for a 14-8 lead. The Huskies and Eagles split the next ten points, 5-5 (19-13), before NU took the next three in a row, leading 22-13 at the BC break. Despite going an even 3-3 in the final points, the Huskies' lead proved to be more than BC could overcome and NU snuck away with the set four win, 25-16.
