The two top-ten teams are 2-2 all-time, only finding victory on opponent turf
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 9 Boston College field hockey team resumes conference play with a 6 p.m. matchup at No. 8 Louisville on Friday, Sept. 14. The Eagles and Cardinals hold a 2-2 all-time series record tie, however each team has only found victory on the opponents' home turf: the Cardinals hold a 2-0 record in Newton while the Eagles have the same record in Louisville.
The Eagles are coming off of a 2-0 home-opener weekend, when they defeated conference foe Wake Forest with a comeback double-overtime win, 4-3, on Friday, Sept. 7. They took on No. 25 Albany on Sunday, where sophomore Fusine Govaert scored the lone goal of the afternoon, giving BC the 1-0 win. The weekend propelled the Eagles up the weekly Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll, jumping from No. 13 to No. 9.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors coming off of the successful home-opener weekend. She is credited with two wins and one shutout after making seven saves and playing 154:38 total minutes over the weekend. She currently leads the ACC in shutouts with two over the four games she has seen action in this year.
BC is led by graduate student Brooke Matherson, who has three goals and two assists for eight points on the season. Govaert and senior captain Frederique Haverhals both have three goals and one assist, raking in seven points off of 13 shots each. Sophomore Jaime Natale follows closely behind, registering 12 shots so far this season.
No. 8 Louisville is currently 4-2 overall and 0-1 in conference after calling to No. 1 North Carolina on Sept. 7, 3-1. The Cards are led by Mercedes Pastor, Katie Schneider, and Erica Cooper, who all have two goals so far this season. Goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran has recorded 18 saves over six games, allowing 10 goals.
During the last meeting between the Eagles and Cardinals, Louisville found success with a 4-1 final score in 2017.
