Eagles to Host Sixth Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown

Women’s cross country welcomes 27 programs to Franklin Park
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College women's cross country team will host the sixth-annual Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday, Sept. 21 at Franklin Park, welcoming some of the top talent in the nation to the premier meet for a women's 5K, a men's 8K and a combined 5K.
The event will include six women's teams and four men's teams that raced at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Of the 28 schools that will be represented at the meet, 15 placed in the top-10 of their respective regions last fall.
In the women's field, Providence won the Northeast Region and went on to place 16th at the NCAA's while Ole Miss won the South Region and took 25th at nationals, followed closely by Minnesota who took third in regional competition and placed 19th at NCAAs. Additional teams from last year's NCAA field include Syracuse (26th), Eastern Michigan (27th) and Dartmouth (29th).
In last year's regional competitions, Utah and Georgia Tech placed fifth in the Mountain and South regionals, respectively. In the Southeast, Wake Forest finished sixth followed by Virginia in seventh, while Brown and New Hampshire placed seventh and ninth, respectively, in the Northeast.
On the men's side of competition, Northeast Regional champion Syracuse went on to place 13th at NCAA's while Ole Miss placed 18th at nationals after coming in second at the South Regional. Virginia, who placed third in the southeast, finished 16th at nationals. Rounding out the NCAA field, Washington placed sixth in the west before finishing NCAA's in 22nd. Four additional teams finished in the top-ten of the Northeast Region last fall – Stony Brook (fourth), Boston University (sixth), Brown (seventh) and Harvard (tenth).
At the 2017 Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, Providence took the women's event with 78 points while Syracuse won the men's field with 35 points. The BC women's team earned 321 points, placing tenth among the field, while the Eagles' men's team placed 15th with 486 points.
