September 11, 2018 | Football
John Johnson shines in Rams' MNF win over Oakland.
The 99th NFL season kicked off over the weekend with 11 Boston College Eagles scattered across 10 rosters in the league. The action initiated opening night with Matt Ryan beginning his 11th season as the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons against the defending Super Bowl champions on national television. A Monday Night Football doubleheader featured former BC defensive back John Johnson (LA Rams) in game two.
Â
Anthony Castonzo | OL | Indianapolis Colts
Despite returning to the practice field last week from a hamstring injury early in the preseason, Castonzo was inactive for the Colts week one game against Cincinnati.
Â
John Johnson | SS | Los Angeles Rams
In a dominating win for the Rams, Johnson contributed in a big way with a second quarter interception of Pro Bowl QB Derek Carr. He added six tackles in the 33-10 win on the road on Monday Night Football.
Â
Luke Keuchly | LB | Carolina Panthers
An All-Pro linebacker, Keuchly began his seventh NFL season with a 16-8 win over the Dallas Cowboys at home Sunday afternoon. He was all over the field; posting a game-high 11 tackles as the Carolina defense held Dallas to 232 total yards of offense.

Harold Landry | DE | Tennessee Titans
Landry, a second-round pick earlier this year, returned to practice last week from an ankle injury, but was held out of the Titans' season opener; postponing his official NFL debut by another week.
Â
Matt Milano | LB | Buffalo Bills
Milano started at weak-side linebacker for Buffalo against Baltimore on Sunday. He was on the field for 76 of 80 defensive snaps and totaled seven tackles.
Â
Kamrin Moore | DB | New York Giants
Moore, a sixth-round pick of the Saints this year, was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants last week, but was not active in week one.
Â
Kevin Pierre-Louis | LB | New York Jets
Pierre-Louis was out for the Jets' season opener, serving a one-game suspension.
Â
Matt Ryan | QB | Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons held a narrow lead late in the NFL's season opener against Philadelphia, but the Eagles went ahead by six with 2:19 to play. Ryan moved the Atlanta offense 70 yards down to the Philadelphia five, but a last second toss to Julio Jones fell incomplete and the Falcons came up short of the game-tying score. Ryan completed 21 passes for 251 yards and ran the ball twice for eight yards.
Â
Justin Simmons | FS | Denver Broncos
Simmons' third season in the NFL began with his first career start at free safety for the Broncos. He collected his fifth career interception, made three tackles and played all 57 defensive snaps in a 27-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

John Wetzel | OL | Arizona Cardinals
Wetzel came off the bench to play 25 snaps at tackle for the Cardinals at Washington on Sunday.
