HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – BC started the set trailing 5-3 but scored four straight points to lead 7-5. The Thunderbirds tied the game back up 11 but the Eagles again scored four consecutive points to lead 15-11. The point gap held as the teams traded blows until SUU went on a 7-1 run to tie the match at 22-22. After back-and-forth two-point runs, BC held out to win the set in extra points, 26-24.
Â
Set 2 - BC pulled ahead 9-5 after a four-point run that included an ace from sophomore Madison McKnight. The Eagles later led 13-8 at an SUU timeout, widening the gap to 18-10 after the break with a 5-2 run. SUU came back to take four-straight, but the Eagles defense stymied the charge and closed out the set, 25-20.
Â
Set 3 – The Eagles quickly went up 3-0, forcing a Thunderbird timeout. The teams dealt in short runs through much of the set, with the Eagles leading 17-11 until a three-point BC run, which was capped with an ace from rookie Jewel Strawberry, forced a Thunderbird timeout at 20-11 BC. The Eagles finished the set with a 5-3 run to win the set, 25-14, and sweep the match.
