Getting To Know Kate Klimkiewicz
August 29, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Klimkiewicz is one of seven rookies on the roster this season.
Rookie Kate Klimkiewicz hails from Oakton, Virginia and played her high school ball at Paul VI Catholic High School. If the school sounds familiar it's because the team finished tenth in the final USA Today High School Girls Basketball Poll in 2017-18. The team finished the season with a 31-4 record and won the 2018 VISAA State Championship. She was a 2018 McDonald's All-American nominee.

Q - Now that you have been on campus for a month – do you have a favorite spot already – if so where and why
Boston College is a beautiful campus, it is hard to pick one spot. However, if I had to pick one, it would be the lawn right outside Gasson Hall. The interior and exterior of the building is beautiful. Laying out on the lawn with a good book in the summer is very relaxing.
Q - For those that don't know much about your game, what kind of player are you and what will you try to bring to the court for the Eagles?
A - On the court, I have energy on both ends of the floor. On offense, I love to run the floor for open shots and layups. On defense, I love to have active hands. Since arriving at BC, I know I have do anything for our team to be successful, as well as being a great teammate on and off the floor.
Q – You come from a pretty successful high school team – how long did it take you to adjust to the college game and practice – what surprised you about practices
A - What surprised me most about the practices was how much faster the speed of the game was. Not only was the game faster, but transitioning from each drill is quick as well.
Q - Is there one player you model your game after?
A - I love watching Stephen Curry play. His poise on the court is amazing, as well as his work ethic on and off the court. He has demonstrated that if you put your mind to something, you can be anything you want to be.
Q - What WNBA player would you love to play one-on-one against and why?
A - I would like to play against Sugar Rodgers of the New York Liberty. Living so close to Washington D.C. and my dad works for Georgetown (where Sugar played), I grew up attending the games with my family, watching her dominate in the Big East.
Q - Have you set some personal goals for yourself on the court this season?
A - My personal goal this season is to become a better player and learn as much as possible. I am looking forward to a new chapter in my basketball career with fantastic coaches that can help me be the best player I can be.
Q - What are you most looking forward to this season?
A - I am looking forward to playing in a competitive environment in the ACC with my team, winning games, and traveling on the road!
Q - Do you have any pregame rituals?
Al - An important pregame ritual of mine is to pray to God that the game is competitive, no one gets injured, and that my team has a successful game.
Q - Who (or credit a number of people) have an impact on your development as a player and getting the chance to play college ball
A - My father has had the biggest impact on my game. He introduced the game of basketball to me and taught me how to love the game. Additionally, my entire family as a whole, especially my mother and sister Allie, have always been at my side, motivating me every step of the way. Besides my family, all the coaches who have taught me since house league have been a huge piece in the puzzle in helping me get to Boston College. I would especially like to thank the coaching staff of Team Takeover and Paul VI. They have shaped me into the player I am today.
Q - Was playing college ball your dream - did you ever not believe in the dream - when did you realize it could be attainable
A - Ever since I was in house league, I knew college basketball was a dream of mine. As I got older, I worked hard and my family and coaches taught me that if I continued to work hard on and off the court, the dream that has been in my head since I was seven years old could be attainable.
Q - If you did not play basketball, what other sport would you want to play at BC and why?
If I did not play basketball, I would either want to play soccer or ice hockey at BC. I grew up playing competitive soccer until I reached high school and decided to focus entirely on basketball. On the other hand, I love watching ice hockey and skating.
Q - What kinds of things do you enjoy doing when you are away from basketball?
A - I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. They have been a huge part in getting me where I am today, and I really enjoying being around them. Additionally, I love to read and hike in my free time, as well as walk the dogs with my mom and dad.
Q - What parts of your game that you plan on working on this summer?
A - This summer I plan to work on getting my shot off quicker, my ball handling, defense, conditioning, and being the best teammate I can be.
Q – What have you and your teammates done away from the campus that has been fun
A - As a team, we have gone into downtown Boston to experience food, friends and fun! Everyone on the team is extremely nice and has made the transition to college smooth.
