Eagles head into game week by selecting 2018 captains.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Graduate center Jon Baker and senior defensive back Will Harris were voted team captains by their teammates, Boston College head coach Steve Addazio announced today.
Baker enters 2018 with 36 career games played at center, including 27 starts. Baker started the opener in 2017 and sustained a season-ending knee injury in the win at Northern Illinois. The Millis, Mass. native is the first Eagle to be named captain in two consecutive years since Mike McLaughlin in 2008 and 2009. A two-time ACC All-Academic team selection and three-time Athletic Director's award winner for academic achievement, Baker enters the season as one of the top centers in the ACC.
Harris has played in 38 consecutive games, including 29 straight starts at strong safety for the Eagles. One of the nation's best all-around players, Harris was named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-America team prior to the season. Harris led the nation with four fumble recoveries in 2017 to go along with 83 tackles (third on the team). For the year, Harris totaled 5.5 TFLs, one interception, one sack and two pass breakups as a key part of one of the nation's top pass defenses.
Boston College returns 17 starters from last season's 7-6 squad that finished 4-4 in the ACC. The Eagles won five of their last six regular season games a year ago and finished the year in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs. Iowa.
BC is set to begin the 120th season in school history as the Eagles host in-state foe UMass on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with live broadcast coverage on ACC Network Extra and the BC IMG Sports Network.
Season tickets are now available by visiting BCEagles.com or calling 617-552-4622 (GOBC).
