HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The match proved to be a battle from start to finish as the teams fought through 11 tie points. Providence took a timeout after BC came within one, 21-20, but the regroup was just what the Eagles needed and they went 5-0 to finish out the set win, 25-21.
Set 2 – After taking a 10-point lead in the second set, Boston College had to hold off a late push and edged the Friars, 25-23, to take a 2-0 set advantage. After a slower start, the Eagles went on a 14-3 run to lead 17-7 and force a Providence timeout. The Friars came back to bring the game within two, trailing 22-20, but BC held off the charge long enough to win.
Set 3 – The final set was all Boston College as the Eagles took a dominant 25-8 set win to sweep the match. At the first timeout, BC led 9-3 with four points coming off of Friar errors. The Eagles widened the lead by scoring seven straight points, leading 16-3, and continued to roll to a win despite a 3-0 run from PC late in the frame.
Jane DeJarld
On the difference-maker in the third set
"I think the first two sets we were still struggling to find our confidence and to play at the level we know we can play. By the third set we really figured that out, knew how fast we could run our offense and played a much more confident game."
Clare Naughton
On going into the final match of the weekend with two wins
"It feels really good. Last year we lost to Providence so it kind of marks the new beginning of BC volleyball."
