HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – It was a back and forth battle to start the match, with the teams switching leads six times. The Eagles persevered and forced back-to-back Crusader errors, which proved to be the momentum shift as Boston College took a 19-15 lead into the timeout. BC would finish out on a 6-4 run, taking the final three points in order, and win set one, 25-19
Set 2 – BC started out strong, running to a 13-8 lead and forcing a Holy Cross timeout. Later in the set, BC took four-straight points to lead 21-12. Holy Cross took another timeout and won the point that followed, but the Eagles ran away with the remainder of the set to win 25-13.
Set 3 – The final frame proved to be the toughest as the teams were neck and neck until a Boston College four-point run put the Eagles in the lead for good at 11-8. Later in the set, the Crusaders went 5-2 to force the Eagles to take a timeout at 17-16, and BC rebounded with an 8-5 run to secure the close set and the match.
Head Coach Jason Kennedy
"Today was a good opportunity for us to learn about ourselves. It was great to play against a team other than ourselves. Overall I think we played well, we came out with the usual first match of the year jitters so I'm glad that's behind us.
"We're looking forward to opening the 2018 regular season on Friday night at home at 7 p.m. Hartford has a new coach so we're a little unsure of what to expect from them. It should be another good test to see how well we can control our side of the net."
UP NEXT
The Eagles officially open the 2018 season at home with the BC Invitational, Aug. 24-25, against Hartford, Sacred Heart and Providence. BC's first match is set for 7 p.m. on Friday against the Hawks.
