BC Plays Colgate to Draw in Final Preseason Tune-up
August 18, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Weather-shortened exhibition ends at 0-0
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team played No. 25 Colgate to a 0-0 draw in a weather-shortened match at the Newton Campus Fields on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the team's preseason exhibition schedule. BC will officially open the 2018 slate next Friday, Aug. 24, when the Eagles travel to Quinnipiac for a 4 p.m. match.
With inclement weather brewing on the outskirts of Newton, the teams elected to play three, 30 minute periods in lieu of the traditional two, 45 minute halves. The clock was stopped with 22:40 to play in the final third and the contest was eventually called due to lightning.
Slow Build Up…
Neither team had many chances in the opening 20 minutes ... the final 10 of that frame and the middle 30 minute playing period gave way to some physical play from both teams and entertaining looks ... Colgate had a chance to take the lead late in the first stanza when Oliver Harris broke into the box on the left side but Joe Fryatt had a great kick save at the post.
…to Eventual Chances
The Eagle had numbers with 11 minutes remaining in the middle period, and Kristofer Konradsson had a long-range look up the middle but Raiders' goalkeeper Jacob Harris corralled it in … a few times, Ivan Postolka found Trevor Davock over the top and the senior did well to track the balls down … the Eagles had a corner with five minutes to play in the middle period … Konradsson's ball found a couple Eagles who were able to out-leap the Raiders but the headers couldn't find the net, nor did Tyshawn Rose's follow-up shot … Simon Enstrom earned BC's best chance(s) of that middle period of play, driving up the middle of the field and flicking a hard shot on goal form within the box but Harris made a nice reactionary save … the ensuing corner kick connected with Tyler Stott's header but it went inches over the crossbar.
Working Hard
Joshua Forbes was active on the right flank, serving a few nice balls across to goal from the wing … the senior was a key cog in the transition game, helping the backline connect passes to the forwards … Stott was vocal in his middle back spot … with the deep bench rotating in and out frequently and several different players getting touches, Stott and Abe Bibas made sure to call out marks and direct teammates.
