Lonergan, Burt and Barnes will represent the U.S., Watts to skate for Canada
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Four Boston College Eagles will compete in the upcoming three-game series between Canada's National Women's Development Team and the United States' Under-22 Women's Select Team.
The trio of Caitrin Lonergan, Cayla Barnes and Katie Burt ('18) will represent the U.S. while Daryl Watts will skate for Team Canada.
Lonergan, Barnes and Burt were named to the U.S. squad following their participation in the USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. last week. Burt and Lonergan were members of the 2016 U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team, which was the last edition of the festival while Barnes was most recently a member of the gold-medal winning U.S. National Team at the 2018 Olympics.
Watts earned her spot after participating in the CNWDT camp, also held last week. The rising sophomore finished her week of camp – which included intrasquad games and against Japan's national women's team, practices, off-ice dryland training, fitness testing, and classroom sessions - with one goal and one assist in four games. Watts' most recent Team Canada experience came in 2017 when she won a gold medal at the IIHF Under-18 World Championship
Both of the rosters for the U.S. and Canada number 22 players and include 13 forwards, seven defensewomen, and two goaltenders.
The Under-22 Series is scheduled for Aug. 16-19 in Calgary, Alberta. The games are set to be played on Thursday (6 p.m.), Friday (6 p.m.), and Sunday (2 p.m.). All games will be streamed live at HockeyTV.com. The U.S. and Canada have met 13 times at the Under-22 Series and Team USA holds a 14-3-3-17-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) record.
