Serena Sommerfield Named AHCA All-American Scholar

Sommerfield recognized for the second consecutive year.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's hockey rising senior Serena Sommerfield has been named an AHCA Division I All-American Scholar, the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced Friday.
Sommerfield is among 217 Division I women recognized by the AHCA for academic excellence during the 2017-18 season. This is the second year of the program and the second consecutive year that Sommerfield has been recognized.
Each All-American Scholar averaged a grade point average of 3.6 or better and participated in 40 percent of their school's games during the 2017-18 season.
"We are extremely proud of this group of student-athletes who have competed at the highest levels of the game on the ice and matched that performance in the classroom," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes, so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement."
Along with collecting this AHCA All-American Scholar award, Sommerfield earned her third consecutive nod to the Women's Hockey East All-Academic Team earlier this month.
