BC Trio Invited to Hockey Canada Selection Camp
July 31, 2018 | Women's Hockey
The forwards will look to earn spots on the Development Team for a three-game series vs. the United States
CALGARY, Alberta – Three members of the Boston College women's ice hockey team have been invited to Hockey Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp, which runs Aug. 3-11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park.
Â
Junior Lindsay Agnew and sophomores Daryl Watts and Maegan Beres will be among the 41 players attending the development team camp in Calgary. The Eagles are aiming to be among the final players selected to play in a three-game series against the United States from Aug. 16-19 at the Markin MacPhail Centre. In addition to intrasquad games, the players will participate in several practices, off-ice dryland training, fitness testing, and classroom sessions leading up to the three-game series.
Â
This is the second straight summer that Agnew will take part in the camp after attending and earning a CNWDT spot last year. A new addition to the BC roster after transferring from Minnesota ahead of the 2018-19 season, Agnew played in 38 games for the Gophers as a sophomore. She recorded a career-high 13 points on five goals and eight assists.Â
Â
Beres, who won a silver medal with Canada at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation's Under-18 World Championships, skated in all 38 games for the Eagles during her freshman season. The forward recorded 15 points on two goals and 13 assists while adding 25 blocked shots. Watts made history during her 2017-18 freshman season, becoming the the first-ever freshman to win the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Her 82 points marked the second-highest point total ever posted by a freshman in NCAA play, while her 42 goals tied for the most by a freshman in NCAA history, behind Harvard forward Julie Chu's 42 in 2002-03. Watts' 82 points are also the second-highest single-season point total in Boston College history.Â
