Four Eagles Honored by The IWLCA

Apuzzo named Player & Attacker of the Year; Miller earns Defender of the Year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's lacrosse team was well represented in the All-American and position honors announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) today.

Junior Sam Apuzzo was named the Player of the Year, Attacker of the Year and a First Team All-American. Fellow junior Elizabeth Miller was named the Defender of the Year as well as a First Team All-American.

Junior midfielder Dempsey Arsenault earned First Team All-American honors, while senior attacker Kaileen Hart was a Third Team All-American honoree.

It marks the first time the BC program garnered two individual position awards, the Player of the Year honor and placed four players on the All-American squad.

Apuzzo, a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and 2018 Tewaaraton Award winner, was named the ACC's Attacker of the Year, All-ACC First Team. She led the Eagles in goals (88), assists (41), points (129), draw controls (163), caused turnovers (31) and game-winning goals (9). She was third in the nation in scoring and points scored, while leading the ACC in both categories.

A native of West Babylon, N.Y., Apuzzo set a new program record for most goals in a single season (88), a record she set in 2017. She also set a new program record for points in a single season and tied the program record for most assists with 41. Apuzzo shattered the old record for most draw controls in a single season with 163.

Miller, the ACC's Defender of the Year, was a 2018 Tewaaraton Top 25 finalist. The junior helped lead a tough, tenacious defense that led the ACC in ground balls (145) and caused turnovers (72). The Eagles defense yielded just 9.71 goals per game, held 13 opponents to 10 or fewer goals and limited 10 teams to single-digit goals.

A native of New Canaan, Conn., Miller tallied a career-high six goals and was third on the team in caused turnovers and draw controls.

Arsenault, a native of New Hampton, N.H., was an All-ACC first team honoree. The midfielder had a breakout season as she was second on the team in goals (64), assists (39), points (139) and draw controls (111). She led the team in ground balls (59) and was second in caused turnovers (30). Arsenault scored the biggest goal of her career in a 14-13 overtime victory over then-undefeated Stony Brook in the NCAA Tournament. The junior scored at 1:42 left in overtime off a feed from Apuzzo. In the NCAA Tournament run, Arsenault tallied nine goals, 10 assists with 23 draw controls.

Hart, a native of Babylon, N.Y., was the Eagles third leading scorer with 57 goals, 28 assists for 85 points. She finished the season with 40 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Hart tallied a career-high five goals, five assists for 10 points in a win over Brown this past season. She also had five goals in the NCAA Tournament game against Princeton.
