Eagles’ junior attacker is one of five players in running for National Player of the Year honors
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Sam Apuzzo is one of five national finalists for the 2018 Tewaaraton Award, it was announced today. The Tewaaraton Award is presented annually to the top male and female American collegiate lacrosse players and is considered the sport's national player of the year award.

Apuzzo is making her second appearance on the Tewaaraton Award Nominee list. The 2018 ACC Attacker of the Year, Apuzzo has recorded 112 points – including 79 goals and 32 assists – in 20 games. An All-ACC First Team honoree, Apuzzo set a program-record with 127 draw controls, including a single-game record of 17 against Louisville on April 26 in the opening round of the conference tournament. She currently ranks fourth in the nation in goals scored, sixth in goals per game, third in points and 13th in draw controls. Apuzzo is one of seven players to repeat as a Tewaaraton Nominee from 2017.
Â
Last week, Apuzzo and her two teammates - junior Dempsey Arsenault and Elizabeth Miller - were listed among the top 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award. It matched the program's high for nominees in a season, tying the 2015 squad that saw then-seniors Covie Stanwick and Mikaela Rix and junior Sarah Mannelly named to the list. That season, Mannelly became the program's first-ever Tewaaraton Award Finalist. BC was one of three schools with three student-athletes this year, joining Maryland and Northwestern.
The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held May 31, 2018, at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Â
Fourth-ranked Boston College (19-1) won the ACC regular season title, posting a perfect 17-0 overall record, including a 7-0 mark in the ACC. The Eagles lone loss came in the ACC Championship game versus North Carolina. The Eagles will open play in the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Newton Soccer & Lacrosse Complex. BC will play the winner of Friday's Syracuse/Princeton match up. Both games will be available on WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.Â
