Eagles Fall in Close Call at UC Irvine

Men's tennis brought the decision within one point with successes in singles
IRVINE, Calif. – The Boston College men's tennis team fell to University of California Irvine, 4-3, Monday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
"We fought hard today as we always do however just came up short in our first outdoor match of the season," said head coach Scott Wilkins. "Chris had a great win at No. 3 against Sebastian Heim who is a senior who has been ranked in the top 100 before and usually plays No. 1. The match came down to Gary who had a 5-3 lead in the third set with matches tied at 3-3. Gary is such a smart player and fearless leader who just came up short against Luca."
UC Irvine got the ball rolling, taking the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
The Anteaters extended their lead with the first two singles win at the No. 1 spot and No. 5 spot.
Freshman Markus Nordby notched the first Eagles point of the match, taking down his opponent, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 6 position. Senior Kent Mukai then was victorious in three set, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
From the No. 3 positon, freshman Chris Grasel tied the match at three-all after his three-set win, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Though it was brought to three sets to finish the match at the No. 2 spot, the Anteaters came out with the triumph and took the match.
Up next, the Eagles will challenge UNLV March 8 at 11 a.m. in Las Vegas.
