BOSTON - Boston College head coach Jerry York was given the 2018 Clark Hodder Award, which is handed out to the Division I Coach of the Year in New England. The New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star teams and awards have been finalized after tallying votes from all Division I coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England.
Wednesday's honor marks York's third New England Coach of the Year award. Boston College's head coach claimed the award following the 2003-04 and 2013-14 seasons, as well.
York collects his third New England Division I Coach of the Year honor after leading the Eagles to an overall record of 20-14-3, with an 18-6-0 record in league play which was good for BC's league record 16th regular season conference title. It marks York's ninth regular-season title at the helm of his alma mater.
Boston College was picked to finish fourth in the league for the 2017-18 season at the conference's annual media day at TD Garden Sept. 26, 2017. The Eagles have now won at least a share of the regular-season the last three seasons.
The Eagles season was cut short following a 4-3 overtime loss in the Hockey East semifinals on March 16 at TD Garden.
York's nine Hockey East tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012) are the gold standard in Hockey East. He is 60-20-1 (.747) in 81 conference postseason contests. Boston College has advanced to the semifinal round of the league tournament in 13-of-19 seasons overall under York (York's first semifinal showing was in 1997) and 12 Hockey East Championship games.
Under York, Boston College has now won 20 games in a season for the ninth time in a row, which marks the second-longest streak in college hockey behind Denver (17).
In addition to York's All-New England honor, he was tabbed the 2018 Hockey East Coach of the Year on March 15 at the annual postseason banquet at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge. It marked his fourth Hockey East Coach of the Year honor. Previously, York had won Hockey East Coach of the Year in 2004, 2011 and 2014. It marked the Eagles' fifth Coach of the Year honor as the late Len Ceglarski won the league's first ever Bob Kullen Coach of the Year Award in 1985.
This year's banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will start at 6 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala. All coaches, student-athletes, family members and friends are encouraged to attend Wednesday's banquet.
