Eagles Earn Bid to NIT; Travel to Western Kentucky

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College earned an invitation to the 2018 National Invitation Tournament tonight and will travel to face Western Kentucky in the opening round on Tuesday, March 13. It is the first postseason appearance for BC since 2011, when the Eagles advanced to the second round of the NIT.
The Eagles enter the 2018 postseason with a 19-15 record overall, finishing with a 7-11 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. They recently finished up play in the ACC Tournament, falling in the quarterfinals, 90-82, to Clemson on March 8. Â
Western Kentucky dropped a 67-66 decision to Marshall in the Conference USA title game on Saturday night. The Hilltoppers, coached by Rick Stansbury, have compiled a 24-10 overall record, including a 14-4 mark in CUSA play. The Hilltoppers are 13-3 at E.A. Diddle Arena this season.
Boston College is 17-12 all-time in 11 appearances in the NIT. The Eagles advanced to the championship game in 1969 and the semifinals on three occasions. In its last NIT appearance in 2011, Boston College won, 82-64, at McNeese State before falling, 85-67, at home against Northwestern.
The game will air on ESPN3 at 8 p.m. ET and can be heard live on the BC Eagles IMG Radio Network (WEEI 850 AM).
