CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's ice hockey team defeated Northeastern, 5-2, in the second semifinal game of the Beanpot on Tuesday night to advance to the Championship round.
Junior Makenna Newkirk scored three goals and freshman Daryl Watts found the back of the net twice to give BC a commanding lead in the game. The Eagles will compete against Boston University in the Championship next Tuesday, Feb. 13.
The Maroon and Gold enter the Championship as the two-time defending champion. The third-ranked Eagles have three players in the top 10 nationally in scoring, led by Watts who has 71 points.
Watts was also named the national rookie of the month on Monday for the third time this season by the American Coaches Association. She has consistently been a standout player for the Eagles.
In other BC sports news, the Boston College men's basketball team defeated ACC opponent Georgia Tech, 80-72, in overtime on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Ky Bowman scored eight of BC's 11 points in overtime to secure the victory for the Eagles. The team is now 12-2 at home.
