February 01, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Eagles' sophomore is the lone BC player on the conference's academic squad
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College sophomore midfielder Callum Johnson was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's Men's Soccer All-ACC Academic Team on Thursday. Johnson was one of 35 conference players named to the team, and he was the only BC to earn the honor this season.
In 2017, Johnson appeared in all 17 of the Eagles' games, finishing second on the team in scoring with 11 points from four goals and three assists. One of his goals came in ACC play: the overtime winner against Syracuse on Oct. 13. The following game on Oct. 17 against UConn, Johnson again scored the game-winning goal in overtime and also added an assist earlier in the game to start the Eagles' comeback. To open the season, the New York City product posted a one-goal, one-assist effort in the 4-0 win at Boston University on Aug. 27.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
This is Johnson's first nod to the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
