Mattila Collects Hockey East Player of the Week Honors
December 10, 2018 | Men's Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Following his first collegiate hat trick last Thursday night in Hartford, junior forward Julius Mattila was named the Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday.
Mattila sealed last Thursday's 4-0 win at UConn by capping his hat trick in the third period and added an assist to tie his career-high with four points. The junior collected another assist in Friday's 3-2 home victory over the Huskies to close the series sweep with five points.
Mattila ranks second in Hockey East in scoring during conference play, as all of his 14 points have come in the Eagles' nine league matchups. Since the start of November, he and linemate David Cotton are tied for fourth in the league in points per game (1.40).
During that stretch in the faceoff circle, the Finnish forward is second in Hockey East with 113 faceoff wins and has won nearly 58% of his draws.
After dropping their first five decisions, Mattila and the Eagles went 6-1-2 in their final nine games of the first semester and are currently tied for first in Hockey East with UMass. BC returns to action on New Year's Eve with a 5 p.m. faceoff against No. 6 Notre Dame in South Bend.
