HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Cardinals jumped to a 4-0 lead, holding the advantage at 7-3 after the teams split the next six points evenly. BC went 6-3, pulling within one at 10-9, but the Cardinals scored three straight to lead 13-9 and drew an Eagles' timeout. Three more points put the Cards up 16-9 before a 4-1 run widened the Louisville lead to 20-10. A 3-2 surge put Louisville up 23-12, and despite three-straight BC points to cut into the lead, the Cardinals took the first frame, 25-15.
Set 2 – The Eagles led early, 4-1, but fell behind 8-5 at the BC timeout. BC then went 4-1 to knot the frame at nine all, including three kills from Naughton. Louisville went 5-3 to regain a 14-12 advantage, but again the Eagles would erase the gap on a 3-0 tear, taking the 15-14 lead. The teams traded points, tied 18-18, before two UL kills drew an Eagles regroup at 20-18. The Eagles went 3-2 to come within one, 22-21, and sent Louisville to its own bench for a break. Out of the timeout, each team scored a point to make it 23-22 Louisville. Strawberry then came out swinging, hitting three straight kills to lift BC to a 25-23 win in the second set.
Set 3 – With the match tied at one apiece, the teams began the third set going point-for-point, through 6-6, until Louisville went on a 3-0 run to lead 9-6. BC went 4-2 to come within striking distance (11-10) before the teams went an even 3-3 to make the score 14-13. The Cardinals hit a 6-3 surge to lead 20-16 and force an Eagles' timeout before edging BC 5-4 to finish out the set with a 25-20 victory.
Set 4 – The Eagles stifled the Louisville momentum early, pulling away to a 5-1 lead and forcing a timeout right away in the fourth set. The Cardinals slowly chipped away, going 8-6 to trail 11-9 at the BC timeout. The Eagles edged the Cardinals, 6-5, over the next 11 points before UL went 5-0 to claim a 19-17 advantage. After the Eagles' regroup, Louisville was able to hold off BC using a 6-3 run, closing out the set at 25-20.
