Eagles Set for Senior Day

Virginia Tech visits Power Gym on Friday evening
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team is set to host the Virginia Tech Hokies for their second meeting of the season, Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Power Gym. Prior to the Atlantic Coast Conference match, the Eagles will honor their three seniors on their accomplishments at BC: Camille Oemcke, McKenna Goss and Natalie Canulli.
The Eagles are coming off of a 3-1 loss against Louisville last Friday. The Eagles held their own against the Cardinals as freshman Jewel Strawberry tallied a team-high 17 kills. The Cardinals took the first set, 25-15, before the Eagles bounced back to win set two 25-23. The final two sets went to the Cardinals, each with scores of 25-20. Jill Strockis recorded 14 digs and Jane DeJarld had 29 assists on the day.
The Eagles and Hokies recently met for the first time this season on November 4. In that match, Virginia Tech found a clean sweep of BC, 3-0. The Hokies hold a 18-7 all-time lead in the series. The last time the two teams met, the Hokies protected their home court with a clean 3-0 sweep over BC.
Most recently, Virginia Tech faced conference foe Virginia, taking down the Cavaliers in five sets. The Hokies are led by Kaity Smith, who has 331 kills so far this season – fifth most in the ACC. Rhegan Mitchell holds the eighth-top spot in the conference with 809 assists this season.
Cat Balido (246), Clare Naughton (236) and McKenna Goss (194) lead the Eagles in kills while Jane DeJarld has recorded 606 assists so far this season. Makenzie Morrison leads with 360 digs and Jill Strockis follows closely behind with 346 of her own. Defensively, Amaka Chukwujekwu has a team-high 85 blocks.
Following this weekend, the Eagles host Virginia in their final home game this season on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Power Gym.
