BC will take on 38-team field in Buffalo, N.Y.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's cross country team is set to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 9.
Â
The 10K race will be in Buffalo for the second year in a row, as the 2017 event also took place on the Audubon Golf Course. The Eagles place 29th last year, garnering 780 points and averaging 35:04.
Â
Of the eight Eagles on BC's entry list for Friday, only freshman Alexander Horgan and senior Sawyer Maher did not compete at the 2017 Northeast Regional. Then-junior Ian Ritchie led the Eagles with his 117th-place finish with a time of 34:23.6 while then-junior Sean Burke's time of 34:33.1 put him across the line second for BC and 125th overall. Kyle Faddis placed 178th (35:22.7) while Benjamin Osipow came in at 210th (36:10.7). Sean Sullivan and Zachary Beston rounded out the Eagles in 222nd and 226th, respectively.
Â
ACC rival Syracuse, currently ranked first in the Northeast Region by the USFTCCCA Coaches' Poll, took the men's team and individual titles last year with 28 points, led by senior Justyn Knight in 31:43.4, while Iona's 48 points were good for second.
Â
The Eagles are coming off a 12th-place finish at the ACC Cross Country Championship (353 points), where Burke ran the fastest-ever time by a BC runner on the 8K Franklin Park course (23:53.2) to secure fifth-place overall, the highest placing by an Eagle since the ACC's 15-team expansion.
Â
Teams and athletes seeking to advance to the NCAA Championship in Madison, Wis. on Saturday, Nov. 19. The top two teams in each of the nine regionals earn an automatic bid, while the final 13 team spots are at-large selections. Among runners not selected as a member of a qualifying team, the top four runners in each region will qualify as individuals (runners must have finished in the top-25 overall in their region). Two additional athletes will earn at-large selections from the remainder of the national pool.
Â
The men's 10k will begin at noon at the Audubon Golf Course.
