Haukova and Posorske Go Unbeaten at Brown Fall Classic
November 05, 2018 | Women's Tennis
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomores Loren Haukova and Reagan Posorske won all three of their doubles matches over the weekend for Boston College women's tennis as the Eagles competed at the Brown Fall Classic against Brown, Columbia, and Pittsburgh at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"I was really proud to see the improvements in both Loren and Reagan's doubles play this fall," said assistant coach John Sherwood. "They are really clicking as team and it's really paying off for them."
On Friday against Columbia, Haukova and Posorske beat the team of Sarah Hu and Yekaterina Alferova convincingly by a score of 6-2. Kylie Wilcox won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 from the No. 1 singles slot over the Lions' Jennifer Kerr.Â
Day two saw Haukova and Posorske defeat the team of Clara Lucas and Natsumi Okamoto from ACC rival Pitt 6-4. In singles, Elene Tsokilauri fought off Camila Moreno to win 6-3, 5-7 (10-6) in No. 2 singles, while Haukova continued her success with a singles victory over Lucas 7-6, 6-2. Micayla Casella was also victorious over Mariona Perez Noguera in a tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3 (10-3).
The BC doubles tandem rounded out the three-day tournament on Sunday with a 6-3 win against Courtney Kowalsky and Sophia Reddy from host Brown. Wilcox took care of Reddy 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles matchup, and Dasha Possokhova bested Julia Newman 6-2, 6-7 (10-5) for the Eagles in the No. 3 hole. Â
"Dasha showed she on her way back to championship form after missing a few matches earlier this fall due to injury," added Sherwood. "I saw Dasha moving well, striking the ball with confidence, and really taking steps to control the point construction. It was great to see her post a win."
Elsewhere, Laura Lopez and Natasha Irani traveled to Lakewood Ranch, Florida for the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic. The duo lost a tight match 7-5 to Madison Gallegos and Sofia Perez of Florida Gulf Coast in the opening round of the doubles competition.
Individually, Irani took No. 4 seed Sara Culbertson of Central Florida to a tiebreaker but dropped a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 decision. Irani went on to reach the title match of the consolation draw, earning wins over Florida Gulf Coast's Bridget Forster (8-2) and Gallegos (7-6, 6-1) before beating Florida's Katie Kubicz 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinal.Â
Lopez defeated FGCU's Patricia Villar 7-6, 6-0 before falling to No. 6 seed Natalie Novotna of Virginia Tech 6-2, 6-0 in the second round.
