Marnelle Garraud's 28 points leads BC past Rider, 112-61
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Marnelle Garraud scored a career-high 28 points to lead Boston College past Rider, 112-61, in the final of the 25th Annual Hawk Classic hosted by St. Joe's on Sunday afternoon. Boston College is now 6-0 and will host Providence on Tuesday night. Rider dropped to 2-3 on the season.
The Eagles guard hit 8-for-12 from the floor, went 4-for-7 from the field and hit all eight of her free throws and pitched in with six rebounds, four assists and three steals to earn the MVP of the tournament.
Junior Taylor Ortlepp added 11 points and six assists and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Freshman Makayla Dickens pitched in with 19 points, four assists and five boards.
Junior Emma Guy also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. She had 15 points and nine boards on Saturday and finished Sunday's game with four points, three boards in just 28 minutes of action.
From the start Boston College was ready to play as the Eagles outscored Rider, 20-7, in the final four minutes of the first quarter. In the run, Garraud had nine points.
BC opened up the game in the second quarter with an 18-2 run in the first five minutes. Sophomore Sydney Lowery had seven points in the run while Garraud added six points. The Eagles defense held Rider to a season-low four points in the quarter as they led 61-19 at the half.
The 61 points tied a program record for most points scored in a half set in 1997 against Marist.

- The Eagles won the battle of the boards, 50-32. It's the fifth game this season BC has owned the boards.
- BC tied a season-high in assists with 24. The Eagles last had 24 assists in the win over St. Peter's.
- The Eagles hit a season-high 14 three-pointers. BC also shot a new season-high 48.3 percent from the arc.
- Boston College went to the line a new season-high 29 times and hit 20 freebies. Marnelle Garraud was perfect from the line at 8-for-8.
- Freshman Clara Ford played 15 minutes and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds along with nine points, while sophomore Syndey Lowery finished with nine points, five boards.
- In just 10 minutes of action, freshman Kate Klimkiewicz had seven points, six rebounds and a blocked shot.
