
Boston College Falls 42-21 to No. 19 Syracuse

Boston College struck first, driving 74 yards on 11 plays, capped by a pass from Anthony Brown to tight end Jake Burt for his first career TD reception. Â All-American running back AJ Dillon tacked on 35 yards on the ground during the drive, which covered 4:14.
Syracuse responded on its next play from scrimmage, as Eric Dungey connected on a 75-yard TD strike to Sean Riley, knotting the game at 7-7 with 3:03 remaining in the first quarter.
After a fumble on the ensuing kickoff by BC's Michael Walker, Syracuse recovered deep in Eagle territory. Â Dungey took it in from four yards out, capping a four-play, 36-yard drive that spanned 2:17 and made it 14-7, Syracuse.
Dungey scampered for his second rushing TD of the game early in the second quarter, extending the Orange's lead to 21-7 with 12:40 to play in the period. Â It was a seven-play, 67-yard drive that spanned 2:02.
Brown and Jeff Smith connected on a nice 69-yard sideline connection with 2:54 remaining in the first half, cutting the deficit to  21-14. David Bailey rushed twice for 15 yards, setting up the TD pass - the second-longest of the season for Brown. BC's drive covered 82 yards on three plays.
The Orange again responded on their next possession, covering 75 yards on six plays to find the end zone. Â An 18-yard keeper from Dungey - his third TD on the ground of the half - extended the 'Cuse lead to 28-14 with 1:30 left in the half. Â The Orange took a two-touchdown lead into the locker room at the half.
Syracuse got the ball to start the second half and Taj-Amir Torres picked off Dungey on the fourth play of the Orange's drive at their own 34-yard line. Â One play earlier, Tanner Karafa had a near-interception on a toss-back passing play from wideout Taj Harris.
Brown logged his third passing TD of the game with 13:26 to go in the third quarter, connecting with Ben Glines on a 19-yard pass for a touchdown. Â The two-play, 36-yard drive cut the Syracuse lead to 28-21.
On its next possession, Syracuse capitalized on an 11-play, 75-yard drive - capped by a 22-yard TD pass - extending its advantage to 35-21 with just under five minutes left in the third quarter. With 9:04 left in the fourth quarter, Dungey's sixth touchdown of the game extended the Orange's lead to 42-21.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Anthony Brown was 17-for-36 for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Â Brown also tossed two interceptions. Brown's 17 receptions were made by a total of 11 BC receivers.
- Ben Glines, Jeff Smith, and Jake Burt each hauled in a TD pass on the afternoon.
- Burt's touchdown reception in the first quarter was the first TD of his collegiate career.
- Tommy Sweeney (59 yards) and Michael Walker (32 yards) each made a team-high three receptions. Â
- Glines (39 yards) and Kobay White (26 yards) registered two catches apiece.
- AJ Dillon rushed 12 times for 56 yards in the first half. Â The sophomore All-American did not return for the second half.
- Travis Levy rushed five times for 27 yards and David Bailey carried the ball eight times for 23 yards.
- Grant Carlson punted five times for 208 yards - an average of 41.6 yards per punt.
- Michael Walker tallied 194 all-purpose yards. Â In addition to his 32 receiving yards, the senior logged 141 yards on kickoff returns (five) and 21 yards on his lone punt return. Â Walker had a long kickoff return of 53 yards on the afternoon.
- Max Richardson led the Eagles with 13 tackles (seven solo), including 1.5 tackles for loss. Â Brandon Barlow made 10 tackles (six solo). Richardson and Barlow each registered 1.5 tackles for a loss.
- Isaiah McDuffie (nine tackles; seven solo) and Lukas Denis (eight tackles; five solo) were also among the BC leaders in tackles.
- Taj-Amir Torres and Tanner Karafa each logged a sack on the afternoon. Â Torres also made his third interception of the season.
- Syracuse outgained Boston College, 559-356, for the game. Â The 559 yards yielded were the most by BC in a single-game.
- The Orange were 11-for-22 on third down conversions and 1-for-2 on fourth down. Â The Eagles were 5-for-14 on third down and 1-for-2 on fourth down.
- BC's four turnovers translated to 14 Syracuse points and tied a season-high. Â The Eagles also had four turnovers in the loss at Purdue on Sept. 22.
- Prior to the game, BC bid farewell to 21 student-athletes who were making their final appearance on the field at Alumni Stadium.
