
Eagles Fall Just Short in Regular Season Finale

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Boston College volleyball team fell in five sets to Clemson, 3-2, in their 2018 regular season finale. The Eagles showed perseverance throughout the match, owning multiple 12-point leads over the third set and erasing a seven-point deficit in the fourth set with an 8-0 run.
The Eagles (15-15, 5-13 ACC) hit at a .190 clip (63 kills – 29 errors – 179 total attempts) over the five-set match. The Tigers (17-14, 8-10 ACC) held a .211 attack percentage (65 kills – 29 errors – 171 total attempts). Each team earned 11.0 total team blocks. Amaka Chukwujekwu had the match-high for solo blocks with two. The Eagles aced the Tigers four times while only allowing two.
The Eagles end head coach Jason Kennedy's first regular season with a .500 win percentage – the first time the program has seen a .500-or-better record since 2004.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- McKenna Goss's 18 kills tied Clemson's Gabby Easton for match-best. The senior's 20.0 total points was most of any player in the match.
- Sophie West recorded a season-high 14 kills – five more than her previous best of nine vs. Virginia Tech.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The opening set saw a tough 25-18 loss for the Eagles, despite a 3-0 point run in the set. The Eagles hit at just a .108 percent and tallied a .282 kill percent over the first set. Clemson started off with the upper hand, recording four points before allowing one from BC. Despite a relatively back-and-forth point exchange, the Eagles were down by at least four points before bouncing back to cut the deficit to three. The Tigers gained momentum and took advantage, earning five points to BC's one to decide the first set.
Set 2 – BC came back to play for the second set, hitting at a much-improved .316 percent and finding a .421 kill percent. BC only allowed the Tigers to gain more than one point in a row just three times over the set; Clemson found consecutive points for their seventh and eighth, 14th, 15th and 16th, and 17th and 18th points. The Eagles took the second set, 25-21, highlighted by three unanswered points to wrap up the set and secure the BC win.
Set 3 – The Eagles built on their momentum, taking set three with an aggressive 25-15 score. The visitors earned 13 points to begin the match before Clemson could garner just three. Having multiple 12-point leads over the middle frame, the Eagles took the set in a statement. BC hit at a .237 percent over the middle frame, holding the Tigers to just a .050 hitting percent.
Set 4 – The Eagles fell to the Tigers' fury early on in the fourth set, allowing the host team to run up a seven-point lead. BC rallied back in impressive fashion, helped in part by an 8-0 point run. Despite the push back from BC, the Tigers tied the match with three consecutive points to wrap up the set.
Set 5 – The final set got started with a pair of attack errors on either side, putting a 1-1 start. The Eagles pushed forward with a kill from Amaka Chukwujekwu before finding themselves having fallen victim to a 6-1 Clemson point run. BC bounced back and found four consecutive points of their own, cutting the deficit once again to 13-10. A pair of Brooke Bailey kills secured the closing set and match win for the Tigers.
