Eagles Sweep Virginia in Final Home Match of 2018

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team earned their program-best number of conference wins in a 3-0 sweep of Virginia, Wednesday afternoon at Power Gym. With her team-high 11 digs on the afternoon, Jill Strockis became the 10th all-time program leader in digs, with 1,013 over her career.

The Eagles (15-14, 5-12 ACC) hit at a .238 clip (50 kills – 21 errors – 122 total attempts) over the three-set match while recording four total blocks. The Cavaliers (8-20, 4-14 ACC) held a .241 attack percentage (41 kills – 15 errors – 108 total attempts) and out-blocked the Eagles, recording seven total. The Eagles aced the Cavaliers seven times while only allowing two against them.
Clare Naughton led the Eagles with a team-high 12 kills while Jewel Strawberry recorded 11. Jane DeJarld tallied 25 assists as Camille Oemcke found 12.

- The win marks the first time since Clemson and Georgia Tech (Oct. 21 and 23) that the Eagles recorded two consecutive wins. Clemson was the last time that the Eagles swept an opponent.
- Clare Naughton's 13.5 points is tied for match-best. Virginia's Jelena Novakovic also earned 13.5 points.
- The fifth Atlantic Coast Conference win on the season marks a new program-best.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The opening set is highlighted by a five-point run for the home team despite Virginia hitting at a .195 percent to BC's .180. Clare Naughton and Camille Omecke earned points with service aces in the 25-22 take for the Eagles.

Set 2 – BC held the Cavaliers to a 5-0 run before allowing a point to open the second set. The momentum set strong as the Eagles held Virginia to a 3-point deficit through the remainder of the match. The Eagles took the 25-20 set as their largest point difference in the match.

Set 3 – The Cavaliers rallied back, forcing 20 tie scores and nine lead changes throughout the deciding set. Boston College was first to 25 points, but went point-for-point with Virginia to round out the set before kills by Clare Naughton and McKenna Goss secured the Eagles' second consecutive match win, 28-26.
