The freshman netminder backstopped BC to a sweep of UConn with two shutouts.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Hockey East announced Monday that Boston College women's hockey freshman Maddy McArthur has been named the league's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week after she backstopped the Eagles to a series sweep of conference rival UConn this past weekend.
McArthur earned two shutouts, making 17 saves to blank the Huskies, 3-0, on Friday night on the road and then following that up with 16 saves the next day at Kelley Rink for a 4-0 win. She finished the weekend with 33 saves on 33 shots. McArthur stopped 52 of 52 in BC's three-game, regular season series sweep of UConn.
McArthur now sits at 10-3-0 on the year with a .948 save percentage, a 1.16 goals against average and four shutouts. The St. Catherines, Ontario native's four shutouts ties for the national lead and is two more than any other rookie netminder. McArthur's goals against average is third in the nation while her save percentage is fifth overall. Those numbers both rank second overall among goaltenders with at least 10 games played.
Her four shutouts already sit tied for sixth in program history. This is McArthur's second Rookie of the Week accolade of the season, as she earned the honor on Oct. 22 after a two-win conference weekend that included her first career shutout.
No. 4/4 Boston College will host rival Boston University tomorrow night at Kelley Rink. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
