Eagles Fall at ACC Quarterfinals
November 01, 2018 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.  – The No. 13 Boston College field hockey team fell, 1-0, to No. 16 Virginia during the ACC Championship Quarterfinals Thursday morning at Karen Shelton Stadium on the University of North Carolina campus. The Cavaliers are now 9-8 overall while the Eagles bumped to 10-9.
With a very back-and-forth opening stanza, the Eagles held the offensive advantage, out-shooting the Cavaliers 5-0 within the first 15 minutes of the contest. The first half ended with the same 0-0 score, the ninth time this season that the Eagles have gone into halftime tied up.
At the half, the Eagles led with eight shots, two corners, and one save by freshman goalkeeper Jonna Kennedy.
The Cavaliers found the first goal of the contest off of a second-half corner shot. The initial shot was taken by 19 and Kennedy found the save but pushed the ball through the Eagle defense just enough for Colleen Norair to lift it into the top right corner of the cage.
Virginia earned another corner, but the defense held through and blocked the shot before it could reach Kennedy.Â
Both teams suffered a green card late in the second half, but no goals were scored with the woman-advantages.
The Eagles led overall in shots, 18-9, but the Cavaliers earned 11 saves to BC's four. Virginia was 1-4 on corner shots while the Eagles went 0-5.
