BC falls on the road to No. 8 Panthers
PITTSBURGH – The Boston College Volleyball team put up a fight against undefeated No. 8 Pittsburgh but eventually fell, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Fitzgerald Field House.
The Eagles (12-5, 2-4 ACC) attacked at a .277 clip (43 kills – 15 errors – 101 total attempts) and out dug Pittsburgh, 37-33. The Panthers (17-0, 6-0 ACC) hit at .311 percent (46 – 14 – 103) and recorded nine blocks to BC's five.
The Eagles were able to rebound several times during the match when Pitt took substantial leads, but no rally was powerful enough to overtake the Panthers, who are one of two unbeaten teams remaining in the nation.
Freshman Jewel Strawberry had a career day in the loss, notching 14 kills to lead the Eagles. Junior Jane DeJarld led the Eagles with 20 assists while junior Jill Strockis' 12 digs led the squad. Junior Carly Kutschke had three blocks for BC.
