HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Seminoles began the set with a 5-2 lead, stretching the advantage to 10-6 to force a BC timeout. Boston College returned to the court with a 6-2 surge, pulling even at 12-12 and sending the Noles to their bench for a break. FSU came out of the break with a 5-1 run to lead, 17-13, before the teams split the next ten evenly and Florida State called a timeout with its 22-18 lead. BC won three of the next five points, but the Seminoles had enough of a lead built up to outlast the Eagles, 25-21, in the first frame.
Set 2 – The Eagles came away with the 25-22 win in the second set to knot up the match at 1-1. BC opened the match with a 6-2 advantage, including five-straight points, and forced the Noles into a regroup. FSU rebounded with a 5-2 run, trailing 8-7 and forcing BC into a timeout. The teams traded the next several points with BC holding a slight 18-16 edge until the Noles went off on a 5-1 tear to lead 21-19. The Eagles were not fazed, coming back with a 6-1 surge to claim the second set, 25-22.
Set 3 – The teams battled 11 tie points in the third set until the Noles pulled away in a late surge to win, 25-21 and take a 2-1 set lead. BC led early, 5-2, before the Seminoles tied up the set 6-6. BC and FSU remained within just a point of one another for most of the set, through 15 all. The Noles took a 17-15 lead, sending BC to the bench for a break, but The Eagles came back with a 4-2 surge to knot it, 19-19. Again, the Seminoles took two-straight, leading 21-19, and the Eagles regrouped, but the break favored FSU instead. The Noles went 4-2 out of the timeout, taking the frame, 25-21.
Set 4 – The Seminoles took a lead early in the final set and never looked back, running to a 25-17 win in the set and taking the match. The Noles went 6-for-10 to lead 18-11 at the next BC timeout, then took another four-straight to lead 22-11. The Eagles returned a 6-3 rally, but the comeback was too little too late as the Noles closed out the match, 25-17.
