CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The 97th season of Boston College men's hockey begins on Saturday night (Oct. 6) at Kelley Rink as the ninth-ranked Eagles host New Brunswick at 7 p.m. Admission to the BC opener is free. The reigning Hockey East regular season champions and preseason favorites begin the quest for their 10th straight 20-win season and sixth national championship.
COME ON BACK
• The Eagles' current roster features 26 players, including 21 returners who accounted for 95-percent of the team's 2017-18 scoring, all but four goals, and every minute played between the pipes
• Boston College and Colorado College were the only two teams in Division I last season without a senior
• Entering the 2018-19 campaign, those programs are the only two who return their top-6 forwards (points), top-6 defensemen (games played), and top goalie (percentage of time played) from last season
• BC ranks either second or third nationally among Division I programs in returning goals, returning points, and percentage returning in both categories
HINDSIGHT
• Last season, Boston College won at least a share of the Hockey East Regular Season title for the third straight year, claiming the championship outright with a 18-6-0 conference mark
• The Regular Season title was the Eagles' 16th overall, 10th under head coach Jerry York, and fourth in the last five years
• BC won 20 or more games for the ninth consecutive season, the second-longest streak in college hockey behind Denver
• The Eagles swept Merrimack in the Hockey East Quarterfinals at Kelley Rink before falling 4-3 in overtime to rival Boston University in the Semifinal
POLL QUESTION
• Boston College was tabbed 12th in the first USCHO.com poll of the season on Monday, Sept. 24 after finishing last season at No. 16
• BC was one of four Hockey East schools to be ranked in the top-15 of the opening USCHO.com poll (Providence, Boston University, Northeastern)
• This past Monday, the Eagles were tabbed ninth in the USA Today / USA Hockey preseason poll
• The same day, BC was selected to win Hockey East in the preseason coaches' poll for the first time since the 2015-16 season, edging Providence by one point
ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WOLL
• Junior netminder Joseph Woll was one of 20 goalies named on Thursday to the watch list for the 2019 Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I
• Woll, a third round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016, appears on the watch list for the second straight season
• He was named the Team MVP as a sophomore last year, winning the Norman F. Dailey Award, and received Hockey East Third Team All-Star honors
• The St. Louis native went 15-6-0 with a 2.26 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 21 Hockey East contests
• The winner of the sixth annual award will be announced in April at the 2019 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in Buffalo
CLASS OF 2022
• BC welcomes five new players this season in the Class of 2022, three of which were teammates last year with the U.S. National Team Development Program
• The class features forwards Patrick Giles (Chevy Chase, Md.), Jack McBain (Toronto, Ontario), Marc McLaughlin (North Billerica, Mass.) and Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.), along with defenseman Adam Samuelsson (San Diego, Calif.), who is the younger brother of former BC d-man Philip Samuelsson
• Wahlstrom was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, becoming the second-highest draft choice in the Jerry York era behind Noah Hanafin
• McBain was taken with the first pick of the third round by the Minnesota Wild at No. 63 overall
