Five Eagles Set for 2018 Four Nations Cup

Emily Pfalzer, Cayla Barnes, Megan Keller, Kali Flanagan and Caitrin Lonergan will be looking to help the U.S. win a fourth consecutive title.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – When the 2018 Four Nations Cup begins on Tuesday, four current Boston College women's hockey players along with Emily Pfalzer '15 will be representing the U.S. Women's National team in its quest for a fourth consecutive title.

Joining Pfalzer will be Cayla Barnes, Kali Flanagan, Megan Keller and Caitrin Lonergan – four of the current 11 collegians named to the 23-player roster. Barnes, Flanagan, Keller and Pfalzer were a part of the gold-medal winning U.S. National team at the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang. Additionally, Barnes, Flanagan, Keller and Lonergan attended the USA Hockey Women's National Festival in August, with Lonergan and Barnes earning spots on the Under-22 Women's Select Team that battled Canada's National Women's Development Team in a three-game series. Lonergan will be making her senior national team debut.
"We're so proud of those players to be representing the United States in the Four Nations," said head coach Katie Crowley. "I'm really proud of those players and I'm excited to see what they do when they're there."
The U.S. will play three preliminary round games. The team will open up the tournament on Nov. 6 with a 1 p.m. game against Finland before taking on host Canada at 8 p.m. on Nov. 7 and wrapping up group play on Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. against Sweden. The medal round games will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10, with the third-place game starting at 4 p.m. and the championship game at 8 p.m. Â

The Four Nations Cup is an annual tournament that has been held in varying forms since 1996 (previously the Three Nations Cup). The U.S. has captured the Four Nations Cup title eight times (1997, 2003, 2008, 2011-12, 2015-17), finished second 12 times and third in the 2013 tournament. Last year, Team USA won its third-straight Four Nations title, topping Canada, 5-1, in the title game. Pfalzer registered an assist in that game.
