Keller named Player of the Week, Barnes tabbed as Rookie of the Week
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Boston College defenseman Megan Keller has been named the Hockey East Player of the Week, and defenseman Cayla Barnes has been tabbed the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, as announced Monday by the league.
Â
Keller tied for the national lead among defenders this week in scoring with Cornell's Micah Zandee-Hart and tied for the Hockey East overall lead as well after notching four points on one goal and three assists. Keller had two multi-point outings, tallying a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win at Holy Cross on Friday and then assisting on two goals in BC's 4-1 win at Maine on Sunday. She also registered nine shots on goal, had two blocks and pushed her point streak to five games. Keller is now tied for the overall team lead in scoring with three goals and seven assists for 10 points.
Â
Barnes led Hockey East rookies and was tied for fourth nationally in freshman scoring after registering one goal and two assists in BC's two-win weekend. She also led all conference blue liners in shots on goal with 10. Against Holy Cross, one of her two assists came on the game-winning goal and she tallied her first career power-play goal against Maine. Barnes, who leads all BC rookies in points with eight on two goals and six assists, now has a seven-game point streak.
Â
Both Barnes and Keller were instrumental in pushing BC's streak of allowing one goal or less to seven games, which ties a program record. The No. 6/6 Eagles will host UConn on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Providence on Saturday, Nov. 3 for a 3 p.m. game with the Friars.
