BC Begins Fall Season in Pairs at Brown Invitational

Austin and Mullins reach Flight I title match
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston College men's tennis team opened its fall season this past weekend at the Brown Invitational. The format dictated that two players from each school form a team, receiving a point for winning doubles and a point for each singles match for a total of three available points.

The team of juniors Derek Austin and Sean Mullins advanced to the Flight I championship match before falling to Charles Tan and Roger Chau of Brown 2-1. The duo won its first two matches of the weekend by a combined score of 5-1 over teams from Brown and Marist.

Sophomores Chris Grasel and Max Mendelsohn won their first match 2-1 over Boston University but lost 2-1 to Tan and Chau in the semifinal. Grasel and Mendelsohn then scored a 3-0 victory over Brown's Ching Lam and Peter Litsky on Sunday to finish 2-1 overall for the tournament.

In Flight II, Conor Mullins and Max Palmer went 1-2, picking up their lone match victory on Saturday over Bryant. Markus Nordby, Santiago Montufar, and Alexander Chieffalo combined for a 2-1 team record in Flight III, dropping a 2-1 decision to Bryant in the title match.

The Eagles continue their fall schedule on Nov. 2-4 at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut.
